Ducks can be divided into 2 general categories: dabblers and divers.
Dabblers glide along the surface of the water, feeding on what is floating along or just below the surface.
Divers, on the other hand, can dive deep into the water to get their favorite foods.
I think business owners can be loosely divided into these same categories. There are those who stay at the surface and dabble with whatever comes their way (new social media platforms, different kinds of offers, trendy marketing techniques, etc...).
And then there are those who dive deep into a chosen strategy or plan.
Dabblers are often dabbling to stay safe. When you're dabbling, it feels like you're increasing the odds of success and decreasing the risks. The more you hedge your bets and divide your efforts, the more likely something is to pay off, right?
But while the divers do have some increased risk because they're focus is limited—they also have the immense benefit of limited focus. They're concentrating on impeccable execution of their plan.
Divers go all in.
Dabbling makes sense when the stakes are low. We dabble on hobbies. We dabble in our taste in movies or music. And you might even dabble intentionally when you're just getting started with your business because you do have to figure out where you want to commit your time and energy.
But as our experience grows and we continue to swap dabbling for true commitment, we guarantee mediocre-at-best results.
Going all in carries risks. Absolutely. It also carries with it the possibility of wild success.
That success could be financial. But it could also be a major success in your schedule (it typically takes less time to go all in!). It could be success in your mental & emotional capacity (going all in is its own challenge but requires so much less task switching).
Today, the goal is to recommit to your chosen plan—and quit dabbling with what's floating by.
You're resetting your loyalty to yourself, your vision, and your plans.
Consider what you've been dabbling with and what you've been flirting with going all in on. Examine how your body and your mind responds to each.
Take a closer look at your vision for your business and the path you imagine you'll take to get there.
